Pat studied drawing and painting in Montreal at the School of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, at McGill University, and at Concordia University School of Art. She has also studied at Toronto’s Three Schools of Art and Toronto School of Art. She has exhibited her paintings in both group and solo shows, and her works are in private collections in Canada and the United States.

“My art is my way of expressing to others my response to the natural world. Although I am primarily a painter, I base my art entirely on my photographs. My approach is to capture some essence of the landscape that is unexpected – an unusual angle, an extreme close-up, a mysterious light, a juxtaposition of conflicting elements – and use that to draw attention to details that might not otherwise be noticed.

“The natural world is infinite, and will continue in an endless cycle of growth and change long after we are gone and our artifacts have disintegrated. That endurance and ever-changing beauty is the focus of my work. If I am able to draw from the viewer a recognition of the intricate textures of water, ice and rocks, the lonely distances of a shoreline or landscape, and the survival of nature in the face of all obstacles, then my work is successful.”
