Don Franklin was born in New Brunswick but now lives in Ontario. He got seriously interested in photography in 1967 when he got his first time job. His first purchase with his first paycheck was an SLR camera.

He was an active member of the Sun Life Camera Club and president of the group for two or three years. Until he got his own darkroom he used the one at the company every few weekends.

"The key to being a good photographer is to shoot lots of black and white. Anybody can take a good looking photo of a sunset in colour. Compare Sunset in Colour with Sunset in B&W to see what I mean. Also attached are Sunset B&W 1 and Sunset B&W 2 which were shot in B&W in the first place for comparison."

Since retiring, Don continues to take photos whenever possible and has now moved to digital photography. "In the cost way, I prefer digital. I’m the sort of person who can go out in the afternoon and come home with over 100 pictures. Not all of them are good of course so with film there is a lot of lost cost. With digital I can fix up some of the pictures on the computer or delete the ones that are no good whatsoever. Photos on film however, appeal to me in a purist form."

Don likes to get out to nature trails to do most of his work and enjoys going to his cottage in New Brunswick in the summer where he can get outside every day.
